Rouen is a beautiful mid-sized city in France’s Upper Normandy (Haute Normandie). Streets in the heart of the city are narrow with a dense residential and commercial development that is incredibly rich in history. Rouen has preserved an amazingly large amount of its historic architecture with styles varying from Medieval and Renaissance to Baroque and Modern.

This street is in one of the primary shopping streets in the heart of Rouen. Many international retail chains are along this stretch including the United Colors of Benetton that is on the left in the photo, but there are also many local places like a neat candy store and many traditional eateries. Rouen is often overlooked by international visitors to Normandy or France in general, with many heading straight to Caen and its World War II beaches, but Rouen allows you to experience Normandy authentically with few tourists. Not to mention you can stroll its beautiful streets after a delicious Norman dinner.
